I Want More

When I start thinking I want more, I want better, I try to make myself think of it this way:

If you slept in a bed last night,

If you flip a switch and lights come on,

If you twist a knob, and clean, drinkable water comes out instantly,

If, when you're cold, you only have to walk down the hall and press a button to warm up the room,

If you can buy a new top as a pick-me-up on a bad day,

If you're ever bummed because you just watched the last episode of the show you've been bingeing,

Then you are among the wealthiest people on the planet. Ever. In the history of time.

There is so much suffering and need in the world, and I was born into wealth that much of the world's population can't even imagine. There will always be those with more, bigger, newer...even if I were (or become) rich by this country's standards.

But what I've got now is pretty damn good.

I will keep looking to improve, but I must ALWAYS remember to be grateful for these circumstances and these days of my life that are so full of such sweet grace.
